saying thank you is underrated ๐Ÿฉต

Edition #156

September 21st, 2026

Last Friday was my first-ever market where I sold my chainmaille jewelry as Medusa's Menace. And I learned a LOT.

  1. People are genuinely excited to sign up for emails when they physically see the person behind the brand.
  2. My whole "I'll never sell your emails, and I can promise I won't spam you because I barely have time to send more than a couple a month" was unnecessary -- there was a built-in trust factor just by being involved with the event itself.
  3. People get EXCITED when they hear you're doing something new! And they WANT to support you!

While yes, there were ~2-4 people that chose to not get a free necklace with their order if they signed up for emails (commeee ooonn, you didn't think I'd show up to a vendor market without having a way to collect emails, did you?! ๐Ÿคช), the majority of people were EXCITED to join my list.

I doubled my Instagram following, gained 49 new subscribers, and truly had SO MUCH FUN!! I literally got to yap with cool people all day as a means to both sell AND market my second business? Hell yeah.

On a celebratory note: I did have 29 orders ๐Ÿฅน So the fact that I had almost as many orders as I did email subscribers lowkey blew my mind. It's only going up from here!!!

Anywhooo, let's dive back into our email flow breakdown, shall we? ๐Ÿค“

Day 4 of Breaking Down Flows - an email-exclusive series where I tell you why each flow matters, what to include in it, and share swipeable examples for inspo!

โ€‹(the first day is here!) (and all other editions can be found here!)

So far, we've covered your welcome flow, your abandoned checkout, your sunset flow, and your abandoned cart.

The next Standard Flow I recommend building is your post purchase flow.

This flow is triggered when someone places an order and is often split into either how many times they've purchased (new customer VS repeat customer) or based on the cart total.

My preference is having one for new customers VS returning customers so you can personalize the thank you message better.

The goal is to express your gratitude, make them feel valued, and combat buyer's remorse (a natural and normal feeling some folks get after spending money!).

This flow:

  1. Thanks them for their order and encourages them to connect with your brand on social media.
  2. Offer care instructions, get them hyped for their order to arrive, or even explain app usage (if applicable).
  3. Asks them for a review once their order has arrived (this is sometimes split into a different flow, depending on strategy)
  4. Optional: Can cross/upsell earlier on in this flow OR a few weeks after the review request to encourage repeat orders/increase the order total.

What to include in your post purchase flow:

This flow usually has 2-4 emails.

  1. The thank you. This is where you show your customer they're valued and remind them of USPs to get them hyped up for their order to arrive.
  2. The community invite and/or instructions. If there are important things your customer needs to know about the product they ordered, this is the perfect time to tell them! Or, you can use it to encourage they follow you on socials. All depends on your product, business model, and email strategy.
  3. The review request. Social proof is SO IMPORTANT when it comes to selling!! Having an automatic way to collect this valuable feedback from your customers can make or break future sales.
  4. The cross/upsell. While this can be woven into a section in most emails, having a fully separate email with this as the main goal can help some brands make additional sales without having to do an entire winback flow.

And yes, these are mainly nurture emails (except for the cross/up sell emails), because that's what helps increase your customers' lifetime value without having to resort to scummy or unethical practices!

Swipe these for inspo:

  1. โ€‹Initial Thank Youโ€‹
  2. โ€‹Community invite or Care instructionsโ€‹
  3. โ€‹Review requestโ€‹
  4. โ€‹Cross/upsellโ€‹โ€‹

If you'd like MORE examples, reply to this email & lmk!

Stay tuned! Because we'll be breaking down a new flow each week until we run out of flows to talk about ๐Ÿค“

And if you need your flows set up NOW because the holidays are coming...

๐Ÿ“š Currently reading... All 3 paperback books I'm bouncing between, I've already shared over the last couple of weeks (it takes me a while to finish when I'm not having regular beach days! lol). Seven Faceless Saints, Rituals for Life, and Branding is Sex.

๐ŸŽถ Currently listening to... FINALLY made it to the last book in TOG, Kingdom of Ash. And I'm not devouring this one as quickly as I thought. It's supposed to be the one where everything is brought together, but... maybe I'm just over this particular world? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿ’ก Currently recommending... Doing things that scare you. I was terrified going into my first market last week. Having to talk to people all day?? When my hangiety (post-hangout anxiety) has been acting up lately?? Yikes. But!! I pushed through it, had so much fun, and learned a looooooot.

๐Ÿ˜ Currently obsessing over... Can I say, "my life"? lmao because while things have been insanely busy and I can barely stay awake on my feet these last few days, I'm happy and proud of where I'm at in this little life of mine.

And that's a wrap on that!

This week is all about finding my rhythm again now that it's the first "normal" week in over a month for me. I'm so used to following specific routines, so I'm itching to get back into them.

Catch ya on the next wave,

This email was written with my own brain. No GenAI was used to brainstorm, write, or edit this.

Edition #155 September 15th, 2026 Ok! I'm finally coming up for air, Reader. These last 3 weeks have been... a ride for sure. From celebrating my nephew's 2nd birthday, hitting Ypsi Pride, grabbing good coffee & mediocre food w/several friends, going to Carowinds for the first time, and sooo much more, my traveling has finally came to a conclusion ๐Ÿซก A week later than I had originally intended ๐Ÿ˜… Which means I'm a wee bit behind on some of my internal marketing tasks. (per usual, I ALWAYS...

Edition #154 September 1st, 2026 Hey, hi, hello ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ This is a safe place, so it only feels right to admit: I was feeling SO resistant to writing this email. Not because I don't WANT to (I do, I swear!), but because there are 1084 other things on my to-do list today. And I already skipped last week. And it's well after 5:35am (the usual time this lands in your inbox!). Since I'm "on vacation" (in quotes bc I'm visiting my sibs, but I still work while up here! just significantly shorter hours),...

Edition #153 August 18th, 2026 Hey, hi, hello ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ This week is looking like it's gonna be a killer one. Not only do I have 2 networking events back-to-back this week, but I also have a lot of market vendor prep work to do! You read that right, Reader!!! I'll be attending a couple markets this fall season for my new chainmaille jewelry brand, Medusa's Menace. What started out as a simple (time-consuming) hobby to keep my hands off my phone has now turned into a micro product-based business. And...
